# Breakpoints and stepping

You can't set a breakpoint in a `.jadpo` file or step through one in an
editor. An editor's debugger would need to map the generated Rust or
WebAssembly back to `.jadpo` lines, and their debug information can't do
that for a language they didn't compile.

Use the [request timeline](the-request-timeline-in-jadpo-dev.md),
[`jadpo why`](explain-a-decision.md) and
[captured tests](capturing-a-failing-request-as-a-test.md) instead. They
answer the questions a debugger would, in a form both you and your agent
can read. Agents can't use breakpoints anyway.
