# `CardExpiry`

The month a payment card runs to, to its end, written `2028-12` and shown as the card prints it, `12/28`: `year` from 2000 to 2099, `month` from 1 to 12. Personal data.

[Money and banking](types.md#money-and-banking); ordered; since Jadpo 0.1.0.

## Make one

Build one from its fields, `CardExpiry { year: ... month: ... }`.

`text.parse(raw, as: CardExpiry)` reads one from its text; text that isn't one at all fails `malformed`, such as `12/28`, `2028-13` or `2028-00`.

## Fields

| Field | Type |
|---|---|
| `year` | `Int` |
| `month` | `Int` |

## Text, JSON and storage

`text.from` writes its canonical text, the one form `text.parse` reads back. JSON sends its canonical text as a string.

| Text | JSON |
|---|---|
| `2026-12` | `"2026-12"` |
| `2028-01` | `"2028-01"` |

It is stored in 2 columns, each named for the field, `_` and its suffix. This is `2028-01`:

| Column | Type | Holds |
|---|---|---|
| `<field>_year` | `integer` | `2028` |
| `<field>_month` | `integer` | `1` |

## Shown to people

`text.format(value, locale:)` shows it to people in their locale.

With `locale: Locale.en_gb`:

| Value | Shown |
|---|---|
| `2026-12` | `12/26` |
| `2028-01` | `01/28` |

## Operations

It has the contract's own operations: `text.parse`, `text.from`, `text.format`, `json.read`, `json.write` and `==`. It is ordered, so `<` and sorting take it. [Every standard type meets one contract](../topics/every-standard-type-meets-one-contract.md) says how they work.
