# `ExifOrientation`

How a stored image is turned to be seen upright (EXIF 2.32's orientation), named for where its first row and column are seen and written as EXIF's value: `top_left` is `1`, `right_top` is `6`.

[Media and visual](types.md#media-and-visual); not ordered; since Jadpo 0.1.0.

## Make one

Pick one of its variants, `ExifOrientation.top_left`.

`text.parse(raw, as: ExifOrientation)` reads one from its text; text that isn't one at all fails `malformed`, such as `0`, `9` or `06`.

## Variants

| Variant | Written |
|---|---|
| `top_left` | `1` |
| `top_right` | `2` |
| `bottom_right` | `3` |
| `bottom_left` | `4` |
| `left_top` | `5` |
| `right_top` | `6` |
| `right_bottom` | `7` |
| `left_bottom` | `8` |

## Text, JSON and storage

`text.from` writes its canonical text, the one form `text.parse` reads back. JSON sends its canonical text as a string.

| Text | JSON |
|---|---|
| `1` | `"1"` |
| `6` | `"6"` |
| `8` | `"8"` |

It is stored in one column named for the field, of type `text`. `6` is stored as `'6'`.

## Shown to people

`text.format(value, locale:)` shows it to people in their locale.

With `locale: Locale.en_gb`:

| Value | Shown |
|---|---|
| `1` | `1` |
| `6` | `6` |
| `8` | `8` |

## Operations

It has the contract's own operations: `text.parse`, `text.from`, `text.format`, `json.read`, `json.write` and `==`. It isn't ordered, so `<` and sorting don't take it. [Every standard type meets one contract](../topics/every-standard-type-meets-one-contract.md) says how they work.
